John R. Sweeney Obituary (1936)

John R. Sweeney died suddenly on Saturday morning at his home on Dutton’s Mill Road. He was a former resident of this city, where he was born January 15, 1865.


The deceased was employed by the Penn Steel Casting Company until 1920, when he retired from further activity and devoted himself to the duties of his country home.


Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Harriet T. Sweeney, and the following children; Miss Bessie M. Sweeney and Herbert T. Sweeney, who reside at home; Mrs. P.O. Burt, William Sweeney and John R. Sweeney of Chester; Mrs. Willard F. Davidson, of Elwyn; two brothers, William Sweeney of Hagerstown, Md., and Harry Sweeney, of Wallingford. There are nine grandchildren.


Funeral services will be held at his late residence tomorrow afternoon, at 2:30 o’clock.



Interment will be at the Middletown Presbyterian cemetery. Friends may call Monday evening from 7 to 9 o’clock.
