Charles R. Sweeny, Sr., of 217 West Fifith Street, Civil War veteran and one of the oldest residents in this city, will leave Chester tomorrow together with his wife, for West Palm Beach, Florida, where they will remain until Mr. Sweeny’s health improves. Mr. and Mrs. Sweeny will live with their son, John R. Sweeny, a former Chester resident.

Mr. Sweeny has an enviable war record. He enlisted in the Civil War in 1862 as a member of Company B, Sixteenth Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Militia and reenlisted in Company A, of the Thirty-seventh Regiment upon his discharge the next year. Upon fulfilling this second enlistment, he entered the Navy and was a member of the crews of the ships Princeton, Steamer Donegal, the New Hampshire and the gun boat Mary Sanford. He was honorably discharged in 1865.

Mr. Sweeny is an active member of the G.A.R., No. 25, and is the oldest employee of the Delaware County Trust Company. He became connected with that trust company just a short time after it was founded.
